How do I apply for a building permit?

When you are considering a building or renovation project, an important element in the process is the acquisition of a building permit.

In Bathurst, a Building Permit is required for:

  • New building construction;
  • Structural change;
  • Building Demolition;
  • Building Relocation;
  • Change of occupancy or use of a facility (ex: conversion from storage facility to restaurant);
  • Swimming pools deeper than 60cm (24 inches);
  • Building repairs or renovations;
  • Interior alterations to a structure;
  • Accessory buildings that are greater than 20 square meters (215 square feet) in floor area;
  • Decks and stairs;
  • Roof enclosures over an existing or new deck;
  • Re-roofing where the roof pitch is being changed;

If your project matches one of the criteria above, contact our Planning Department at 548-0444.
