CITY-WIDE BOIL WATER ADVISORY
  February 13, 2025

Update — 2025-02-16 @ 1:30 PM: The BOIL ORDER ADVISORY has now been lifted. The City of Bathurst regrets any inconvenience caused by this advisory and thanks all for their patience and cooperation during this situation.

Update — 2025-02-15 @ 3:30 PM: The boil order advisory impacting the entire City is STILL IN EFFECT until further notice.  If your water is cloudy or appears dirty: Please refrain from washing laundry. Periodically check your water quality by running COLD WATER for 10-15 minutes to verify if the water has cleared up.

Update — 2025-02-14 @ 10:30 PM: A temporary solution is now in place, with water service for customers within the affected area along King Avenue resuming. The boil order advisory impacting the entire City is STILL IN EFFECT until further notice. Please note that this may cause cloudy water within the immediate area, and possibly across the system, as pressure resumes to normal. If your water is cloudy or appears dirty: Please refrain from washing laundry. Periodically check your water quality by running COLD WATER for 10-15 minutes to verify if the water has cleared up.

Update — 2025-02-13 @ 7:30 PM: Customers along King Avenue — between (but not including) Dumaresq Street and Basin Street — may experience water service outages. This includes side streets and subdivisions within that area. These outages may persist until the repairs are done. Once water service has resumed, please continue to follow any ongoing boil-water advisories.

A major water main break near King Avenue and Melanson Street has caused a significant pressure drop in the system, automatically triggering a city-wide boil water advisory. Repair crews are on site, with completion expected by midday Friday.

Further updates will be provided regarding the end of the boil order advisory.

BOIL WATER INSTRUCTIONS

Please follow these guidelines until further notice:

Boiling Drinking Water

  • Bring all water for drinking (including for infant formula, juices, ice, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, and dental hygiene) to a rolling boil for at least one minute.
  • Water can be boiled in a pot or kettle on a stove, in an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off, or in a microwave oven (place a wooden or plastic stir stick in the container to prevent superheating).

Household Tasks

  • Water for other purposes (e.g., cleaning, laundry) does not need to be boiled.

Bathing Guidelines

  • Adults, adolescents, and older children may bathe or shower using tap water but should avoid swallowing it.
  • Toddlers and infants should be sponge-bathed, ensuring they do not ingest any water.

This advisory will remain in effect until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.
