What does it take to be a firefighter?


The following skills, abilities, experience, education and training are required elements for you to pursue a career with the Bathurst Fire Department:


Education and Experience:

  • Secondary level diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate functionally in both official languages;
  • Firefighting certificate – Level I and II (NFPA 1001);
  • Valid driver's license, with a Class 5E, and a driving abstract demonstrating responsible and safe driving behavior.

Preferred candidates would possess one or more of the following:

  • NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Technician
  • NFPA 1002 Driver/Operator – Pumper
  • NFPA 1002 Driver/Operator – Aerial
  • Auto Extrication
  • Valid First Aid and CPR-C certificate
