Bathurst Inside Workers served with lockout notice
After a 20-month negotiation process that is now at an impasse, the City of Bathurst served a lockout notice to approximately twenty employees from CUPE Local 1282 (Inside administrative workers). The lockout will be effective on Thursday July 25th at 8:00a.m.
The previous Collective Bargaining Agreement between the parties expired on December 31st, 2016.
“A final comprehensive offer was presented to the CUPE Local 1282 Negotiating Committee on Tuesday June 18th, and again on Thursday July 18th. To our knowledge, the offer has not been presented to the membership for vote. After trying to move ahead in this process for 20 months, we unfortunately had no choice but to proceed with the lockout notice”, stated Bathurst Mayor Paolo Fongemie.
In the meantime, services to the public will not be affected.
“We sincerely hope this labor issue will be resolved as expediently as possible”, concluded Fongemie.
