PRESENT SITUATION WITH TROUBLED WATER (dirty water)
The City of Bathurst informs residents of present issues with what is referred to as “dirty water”. The City’s water distribution system is presently experiencing a number of water line breaks. Combined with construction projects, this results in water siltation (dirt unsettling and mixing with water flow). This causes the “dirty water” effect and this situation is causing sporadic effects throughout our water distribution system. To help remedy the situation and identify potential water leaks, work crews are doing increased Hydrant flushing in various locations within the city. It should be noted that the water is safe for use (drinking, washing and preparing meals). NO WATER BOIL ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED AND NONE IS NEEDED AT THIS TIME. Residents are asked to run their COLD WATER TAPS ONLY for 30-60 seconds prior to use. Please do not use your hot water until you have clear running water. Siltation in the line should clear up with this step. Once clear, hot and cold water can be run. Concerning clothes washing (especially for whites): as the siltation issue is sporadic, residents are asked to run their water first and verify if the water is clear. If the water is dirty, please refrain from doing the wash until the water clears. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank all residents for their cooperation!
