The City of Bathurst and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 550, representing Outside workers, have ratified a new collective agreement.

“We are pleased to renew our collective agreement in place with our Outside workers. This agreement is a good representation of the positive relationship between both parties and our common goal of having a positive, productive, and inclusive workplace, and our commitment to our citizens. We thank the negotiating committee members for their partnership in our vision and mission”, said Mayor Kim Chamberlain.

The six-year collective agreement, retroactive to January 1, 2023, includes wage increases linked to New Brunswick’s inflation, facilitated operations scheduling, and updated language that reflects inclusive values shared by both parties.

“We’re very happy at the outcome of the negotiating process, one that was both positive and constructive. Both groups worked well together to find a common ground that was beneficial to the city, our local employees and citizens. We’re proud of this result”, said CUPE Local 550 President Terry Aubé.

“This agreement offers financial stability to our members and contains modernized language that represents the inclusive values we both have. We were very much two stakeholders expressing mutual respect throughout the whole process, establishing a solid base for positive strength in our relationship”, said CUPE National Representative Guy Ward.
