Notice of arbitration for two Bathurst officers
The Police Act investigator appointed by the Bathurst Police Chief has completed his investigation into the alleged code of conduct breaches regarding two officers of the Bathurst City Police. Chief Ernie Boudreau states that after a complete review of the findings, that there was sufficient evidence that code of conduct breaches are alleged to have been committed by the officers. On June 20th 2018, a settlement conference was held under the provisions of the New Brunswick Police Act for the two Bathurst Police Force officers involved in the Police shooting that occurred on January12th 2015. The purpose of the settlement conference was to provide the subject officers with the opportunity to respond to the allegations under the Police act. Chief Boudreau states that agreement regarding disciplinary and corrective measures could not be reached and that notices of Arbitration hearing have been served to the subject officers. The appointed Arbitrator is Joel Michaud LLB from Fredericton. “The Bathurst Police Force has, from the outset of the tragic event on January 12th 2015, followed the Police Oversight process while being transparent, objective and accountable during the criminal investigation as well as the Police Act Investigation”, said Chief Boudreau. “The objective of police discipline and the New Brunswick Police Act is the protection of public trust, trust that is fundamental in establishing stability, integrity in effective delivery of Police services. The members of our police force will continue as they have since the tragic events of January 2015 to police with pride and achieve its organizational objective of delivering effective and efficient polices services to this community”, said Boudreau.
